~to inspire and engage creative leaders working to build a stronger, more vibrant Sauk County community~

Leadership Program

Sauk County Institute of Leadership (SCIL) brings together potential leaders from various segments of the community in a program that empowers, engages, and equips participants to make a positive difference in Sauk County. Our goal is to develop dynamic leadership skills that transfer to county work, business growth, and community development.

The nine-month program kicks off with an overnight retreat in September followed by eight, daylong workshops that are held throughout the county on the second Thursday of each month from October to May. Each daylong workshop has a different community and leadership topic, including on diversity, authentic leadership, health care, law enforcement, and much more.

Continuing Education for Leaders

SCIL shares its leadership knowledge through recommendations for reading materials, Ted Talks, and online Frame of Reference podcasts by Rauel La Breche. We encourage alumni to recommend continuing education reading and videos for our leadership community.

Community Building SCIL Initiatives

Leadership is …building empathy for the people that you’re entrusted to help.” – David Kelley, Founder of IDEO

Each session SCIL program participants are encouraged to apply their leadership skills to help strengthen their community. Here’s an example of one of the many exciting and creative ideas generated by members of SCIL.

Using the arts to create positive social change

1st Annual Sauk Prairie Empty Bowls was held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. Local artists donated over 100 handmade bowls, local restaurants and individuals donated over 10 gallons of soup and other food. The three hour event raised over $1k for the Sauk Prairie Food Pantry in unrestricted operating funds; meaning they can spend the money wherever it's needed most.
